The Green Sheet Announces the Release of Merchant Warehouse’s New MerchantWARE Solution
On June 9th, 2008 The Green Sheet announced the release of Merchant Warehouse’s MerchantWARE® payment processing solution which takes breach defense measures beyond PCI’s data security standards.
The article, titled “PCI Compliance and Beyond,” reverts to Merchant Warehouse’s “eye-opening” demonstration held on the floor of the National Restaurant Association’s 2008 exposition in Chicago, IL. At Booth #5270, Merchant Warehouse representatives assembled an intrigued audience as they revealed how easy it is to steal and duplicate cardholder data within seconds, even from merchants deemed PCI DSS compliant.
To convey the simplicity of this process, they swiped a test credit card through a standard, PCI DSS-certified card reader and displayed the cardholder data captured by a key-logger (a USB device inserted between a card reader and POS system connection, which is used by hackers to store the data in-transit). Next, using an inexpensive card cloning device, they reproduced the test card to uncover that the copy possessed the same information as the original.
The presentation gave Merchant Warehouse the opportunity to introduce stunned onlookers to their innovative MerchantWARE solution, which obscures the previously exposed and vulnerable information, by instantly encrypting it at the point-of-swipe and safely transmitting it throughout private and public networks.
